Beeckler, Emilie (22 March 1858 - 29 July 1937)

Mrs. E. M. Beeckler, for many years socially prominent in Granton and vicinity passed away about 12:30 Thursday morning, July 29. At her bedside were her husband and all of her children.

She had been ill for a year or more with heart trouble, but had been able to be about the house most of the time until shortly before her death.

Emilie Iakisch was born; March 22, 1858 at Weitz, Saxony, Germany. At the age of 15 she accompanied her mother and a sister to America.

Nov. 20, 1879 she was married to E. A. Beeckler, who taught school in the town of Lynn.

After their marriage, the couple lived in the towns of Lynn and Grant, where Mr. Beeckler continued to teach school. For one year they resided in Sheboygan, and 1 year in Minnesota; returning to Granton to settle on a farm at the edge of the village, near Windfall corners. After making their home there for more than 32 years, they moved to a home in the village 10 years ago.

Mrs. Beeckler was active in church and social circles. She was the last surviving member of the seven charter members of the Ladies’ Circle which organized the Union church here. She was also a member of the Neillsville chapter of the Eastern Star order.

Surviving besides her husband are the following children: George, Neillsville; Mrs. Earl (Theressa) Pickett, Spencer; Mrs. Clark (Vera) Waterman, Mosinee; Mrs. Raymond (Haidee) Smith, Milwaukee; Ben, home farm, Granton; and Bessie, Pearle, and Daphne, at home. Nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. H. B. Holmes, Granton, and two brothers, Robert Iakisch, Keokuk, Iowa, and Rudolph Iakisch, Ogden, Utah, also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Union Church at Granton, Rev. Paul White of Viroqua preaching the funeral sermon. Carmi chapter Eastern Star of Neillsville took part in the ceremonies.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bole, Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Williams, Indiana, Mrs. Margaret True also of Indiana; Robert Iakisch and daughters of Keokuk, Iowa.

*Additional notes: Emilie is the daughter of John Rudolph Jakisch. Surname was spelled Jakisch in an article dated: January 09, 1935; Marshfield News Herald; Title of article - Retired Schoolmaster of Granton Entered Profession 62 years Ago.
