Payne, Raymond S. (April 1861 - January 18, 1947)
Raymond S Payne died Saturday, January 19, 1947, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leah Pickett, of this city, where he had stayed since April of last year. He formerly lived in Garden Valley and came here from Alma Center where he was making his home. He would have been 86 years of age next April.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at he Co-op Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Winslow Wilson, and interment was made in the Garden Valley Cemetery. Mr. Payne is survived by seven children; Emma, Mrs. P. M. Cranston, Rochester, MN; Belle, Mrs. Pete Herried, Alma Center; Dessa, Mrs. Frank Short, Neillsville; Grace, Mrs. A. M. Cray, Cannon Falls, MN; Irving Payne, Alma Center; Lillian, Mrs. A. C. Squires, Humbird; and Mrs. Leah Pickett, Black River Falls; 38 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Wesley.
(A family member states that he was born in Crawford County, WI and his parents were Henry and Malinda (Coleman) Payne. At this time she does not know of his siblings. He married Caroline Jane Hayden, August 22, 1880 at Sylvan, Richland County.)
