Don Eisberner was born June 4, 1933 in Fairchild, Wisconsin and died April 24, 1982 in Augusta, Wisconsin. He was the son of Edward John, Sr. and Helen (Matysik) Eisberner. He was united in marriage to Theresa who was born on Nov. 16, 1936 in Mentor Township to William and Violetta (Fitzmaurice) O’Leary. They were both avid Green Bay Packer fans.
Don Eisberner started with a pair of born pigeons at age six and eventually had about ten different breeds, specializing in Barbs. The barb is one of four oldest breeds dating back to 1603, being first exhibited at shows in the 1870's. It has a square, broad skull with large eye ceres. Don had traveled a lot showing these birds, going as far as Los Angeles, judging at shows at Santa Anna. His prize white barb was second only to Wm. S. Bonds' grand champion barb, Bill is known as "Barb King" of the world. Don sells birds all over, even receiving inquiries from Israel and Czechoslo vakia, but feels there is too much "red tape" to shipping birds out of the country. Don's sons also raise pigeons and rabbits as hobbies, along with the family hobbies of collecting antique bottles, dishes and driving their old horse and buggy.
***The Barb (also called the English Barb) is a breed of fancy pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding.[1] Barbs, along with other varieties of domesticated pigeons, are all descendants from the Rock Pigeon (Columba livia). This breed was referred to by Shakespeare.[2] It was also referred to with an illustration in Charles Darwin's Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication. Wikipedia
