Major Robert M. Kovatch was presented a diploma for his successful completion of
the Army Medical Department Officer Advanced Correspondence course conducted by
the U.S. Army Medical Field Service School at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Presenting the award was Colonel Floyd B. Mitman Jr., commanding officer of the
U.S. Army Biological Defense Research Center, Fort Detrick, Frederick, Maryland.
Major Kovatch, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kovatch of Owen (Clark Co.),
Wisconsin, is married to the former Dorothy Sazama of Colby, Wisconsin.
Assigned to the pathology division, eh is the senior veterinary corps officer on
the installation, and received his degree in veterinary medicine from Michigan
State University, East Lansing.
Major Kovatch is the recipient of the legion of merit, for his exceptional
meritorious conduct in performance of outstanding services while on a previous
assignment in Panama as a veterinary advisor.
Mrs. Otto Kalepp, Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.), and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gumz,
Athens. Paternal great-grandmother is Mrs. Frieda Kniess, Colby. Paternal
great-grandfather is Charles Gumz of Dorchester.
