JOLIET, Ill. - Arlan Dean Birkett, 47, died Sept. 23, 2005, while hangliding.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Westwood Memorial Chapel in Joliet. Friends and family will be invited to share memories of Arlan following the visitation.
Final burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Colby Cemetery in Colby.
He was the owner of Hanglide Chicago and was a pillar in the hangliding community with many worldwide friends.
He is survived by his mother, Milly Birkett; and his siblings, Roger (Patricia) Birkett, Dale (Marcia) Birkett, Susan (Leo) Joubert, Duane (Terry) Birkett, Sherri (Dave) Ohnsted and Lynette (Chris) Brandt; and by Cristina Birkett and Julie Johnson.
Westwood Memorial Chapel, 815-725-0100, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Arlan Dean Birkett, 47, Chicago, formerly of Colby, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, doing what he loved most - hang gliding.
Arlan was the owner of Hanglide Chicago, and a pillar in the hang gliding community with many friends all over the world.
He is preceded in death by his father, Willis Birkett. He is survived by his loving mother, Milly Birkett; his siblings, Roger (Patricia) Birkett, Dale (Marcia) Birkett, Susan (Leo) Joubert, Duane (Terry) Birkett, Sherri (Dave) Ohnsted, and Lynette (Chris) Brandt; and 15 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Cristina Birkett and Julie Johnson.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Westwood Memorial Chapel, 3201 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, Ill. At the conclusion of the wake, friends and family will be invited to share memories about Arlan. Final burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in the Colby Cemetery.
