Hertz, Carl (8 JAN 1859 - 3 SEP 1916)

Carl Hertz, an old resident and prosperous farmer of the town of Colby (Clark County, Wis.), died very suddenly at his home Sunday forenoon, Sept. 3rd, 1916. Between the hours of 10 and 11 o’clock he received a stroke of apoplexy and passed away thirty-five minutes later, aged 57 years, 7 months and 25 days.

Carl Hertz was born in Germany, Jan. 8th, 1859; came with his parents and settled in Dodge Co., Wis.; came to Colby in 1877; and settled on a farm in the town of Colby. He was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Viegut of the town of Wein, at the Lutheran Church in this city, Oct. 27th, 1888. He was town treasurer for several terms and made a capable office. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and held in the highest esteem by his neighbors and friends. He is survived by his wife, son Albert, and daughter Gusta, at home; also two sisters, Mrs. H. Brehm of Athens, and Mrs. F. Firnstahl of this city, and two brothers, William of Edgar, and John C. of Colby, all present at the funeral.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, from Zion Lutheran Church, Rev. C.C. Hartenstein officiating.
