Roe, Daniel (10 APR 1948 – 24 MAY 2019)

Daniel Roe, 71, Loyal, died on Friday evening, May 24, 2019, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 1, at the Loyal United Methodist Church. Lori Rowe will officiate, and military rites will be conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post #175 following the service.

Burial will take place in York Center Methodist Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Daniel John Roe was born on April 10, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Harlan and Marilyn (nee Angel) Roe. He was raised in Spencer, Ohio, where he graduated in 1966 from Black River High School. Dan and Patsy were high school sweethearts and were married on March 25, 1967, at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterville, Ohio. He worked as a mechanic and later a computer technician at Oscar Mayer before his retirement. He was a member of the Loyal American Legion Post #175, and the Owen-Withee Masonic Lodge. Dan loved woodcarving, reading, geeking out on computers (verifiable by the number of books on the subject) and riding his motorcycle with his girl, Patsy, behind him. He also enjoyed wine-making, cooking, and photography. Oh … and fishing at Mead Lake. Or any lake. But especially with his best friend, George.

Dan is survived by his wife, Patsy; a daughter, Beth Starr of Estacada, Ore.; a son, Eric Roe (Stephanie Smith-Roe) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two brothers: David (Sharon) Roe of Estacada, Ore., and Dale Roe of Lore City, Ohio; three grandchildren: Andrew (Krissy) Starr of Bloomdale, Ohio, Shane Starr of Los Angeles, Calif., and Hannah Starr of Estacada, Ore.; a great-grandson who shares his birthday, Silas Starr of Bloomdale, Ohio; a sister- and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Marvin Heminger of Waterville, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Jerry Stickles of Las Cruces, N.M.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Dan was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He also left behind a heck of a lot of stuff that his family has no idea what to do with. Just sayin’, so if you’re looking for books about walleye fishing, computer programming, health cookbooks, westerns, or practically any topic you can imagine, wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch.

Dan would say he was born, he blinked, and it was over. No buildings were named after him, no monuments erected in his honor. But he was fiercely loved and greatly respected and will be forever missed. And in the end, it doesn’t get any better than that.

A special thank you to the people at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield for their loving care and support during his fi nal days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude toward Dan’s friends from the American Legion, the Masons, and members of Loyal and York Center UMC Churches for their friendships and visits.

Dan has requested that memorial donations be made to Patsy Roe to help cover medical costs at 109 W. Central, Loyal, Wisconsin, 54446.
