Another Old Settler Gone
Last Tuesday at 11:15 A.M. grim death claimed another victim and I. Sheldon, one of the old pioneers of Unity went over to that silent majority. Death was caused by a complication of diseases brought on by old age. He had been confined to his bed for several weeks, the last few days of which he remained in a semi-comatose stage, not even recognizing members of his own family.
I.S. Sheldon was born in the state of Ohio on the 7th of Dec. 1823. In 1847 he removed to Fond du Lac county where he worked at the carpenter trade and farmed until 1883 when he removed with his family to the then wilderness of Clark county, where he built a home and has since resided. He was married twice, his first wife being Miss Eliza Johnson, by whom he had six children, who still survive him and are: Darwin A. of Missoula, Montana; Mrs. Betsy Rocoe of Idaho; Mrs. Lorinda Hutchins, Town of Beaver; Mrs. Amelia Darton, Beaver; Mrs. Ella Cook, Oakland, Oregon; and Mrs. Emily Durkee, Town of Unity.
His bereaved widow was Miss Amelia Howard, by whom he had 9 children, 8 of whom survive him as follows: Elwin Sheldon; Mrs. May Severson, of Greenwood; Mrs. Leida Steck, Ashland; Mrs. Mabel Clark, Mrs. Lillian Hause.
