OBITUARY

Mr. David Shelley

It becomes our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of a former citizen and neighbor, David Shelley who passed away Saturday April 25,1903 at his home in Stratford.

He was born July 5,1866 at Brothertown, Calumet Co. Wis. And came with his parents to this place in 1877 and resided here almost continuously until about six years ago. He was a kind and loving husband and a devoted father.

He leaves behind a sorrowing wife, 5 young children: Raymond, Clifford, Elmer, Ida, and Cecil, also three brothers, Lyman, Herbert, and George, the former of Wausau and the two latter of this place (Unity). He was a nephew of Mrs. Allen Boyer (Almira) of Unity and Mrs. Warren Skeesucks (Minnie) on Prentice.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church Monday at 2 o’clock p.m. Rev W. M. Philpot officiating and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and old friends.

The remains were laid to rest in the Unity cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Antigo Lodge No. 151 Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Responses

David Shelley's Death Notice from a column in the Marathon Register newspaper of Feb 20,1903 another column from a later Marathon Register newspaper date Friday, May 1,1903 it says: Those in attendance at the funeral of the late David Shelley, from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Butler of Marshfield, Mrs ? (can't make out) Butler of Fond du Lac, Mrs. and Mrs. W. Skeesucks of Prentice.

I believe the Joseph Butler's were David's wife, Ida's parents and I know the W. Skeesucks of Prentice were a maternal Aunt, Minnie Skeesucks and her husband, Warren but I don't know whom the Mrs. ? Butler of Fond du Lac was. I do know that after David's death, Ida (Butler) Shelley moved to Fond du Lac with all of her children and for the most part they all lived out their lives in that area.
