De Cremer, Clarence "Deke" (28 Sept. 1916 - 15 Sept. 2005)

Retired Lieutenant Col. Clarence "Deke" De Cremer, age 88, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Madison surrounded by family and friends on September 15, 2005.

He was born September 28, 1916, in Denmark, Wis., and attended school in Neillsville, Wis. He graduated from County Normal with a teaching certificate. Deke served his country for over 30 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and was released in 1976. He served in the famous 9th Armored Division in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. He also served with the 101st Airborne Division in Bastonge. His platoon was one of the first units to cross the Remageun Bridge. He served for many years with the famous 32nd Infantry Division and at Fort Lewis during the Berlin Crisis. His many decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, two Presidential Unit Citations, three Battle Stars, Army of Occupation medal and numerous other medals and citations. Upon release from the Army, he was employed by the State of Wisconsin, Division of Health. After retirement he did volunteer work for various agencies, including the Red Cross.

He was happily married to Marion (Dux) De Cremer in 1946.

He is survived by wife, Marion; son, John; daughter-in-law, Kristin; grandchildren, Meghan, James II and Kirk; and great-grandchild, James III. He was preceded in death by his son, James.

Clarence has requested that his memorial and visitation services wait to be held until he is again united with his wife, Marion. Please send any gift to the Dane County Boy Scouts, 34 Schroeder Court, Madison, Wis. 53711-6222 and/or the Memorial Scholarship fund for his son, James H. De Cremer, at Marquette University. Please make checks payable to Marquette University School of Dentistry and mail to Mary Hauschen at Dental Health Associates, 2971 Chapel Valley Road, Suite C, Madison, Wis. 53711.

Cress Funeral and Cremation Service in Madison is handling arrangements.
