Podobnik, Michael I. (10 JUL 1908 - 4 JUL 2006)

Michael I. Podobnik, 97, Greenwood, died on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, on Saturday, July 8. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial was held in the parish cemetery.

Michael Ignatz Podobnik was born on July 10, 1908, in Joliet, Ill., to Michael and Johanna (nee Yurkovich) Podobnik. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Willard and then later bought a farm near Greenwood. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at West Eaton School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on July 31, 1942, and served until Oct. 17, 1945. He returned to Greenwood and had his own business delivering fuel oil for Mobile Oil. He married Martha B. Klapatauskas on Nov. 9, 1963, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. After selling his oil route, he then drove school bus for the Greenwood School District for several years before retiring. His wife, Martha, died on March 7, 1994. He resided in Greenwood until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in the fall of 2005. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Greenwood American Legion, the 40 and 8 Group, and enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Martha; two brothers, August and Emil; Five sisters, Jen Bandosz, Theresa Mendelson, Gertrude Long, Mary Hatton, and Mildred Arch.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, is assisting the family with arrangements.
