Mary M. Barten

GRANTON -- Mary Barten, age 88, of Granton, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville, Wis.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville, Wis. The celebrant will be the Rev. Joseph Follmar. Music will be provided by Ronald Resong, organist; Rita Kuchenbecker, soloist; and St. Mary's Church Choir.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers are her grandsons, Todd Barten, Rob Schauer, Scott Buettner, Bob Buettner, Michael Buettner and Dan Jensen.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis.

Mary Marcella Barten was born on Oct. 13, 1917, in the town of Sherwood in Clark County, the daughter of Steve and Katherine (Mazar) Rosandich. After her schooling, she worked as a nanny in Gary, Ind., and Woodstock, Ill., before working in a defense plant for the United States Military in a General Motors factory in Chicago, Ill., until 1942. Mary was united in marriage to Norbert Barten on Aug. 29, 1942, in Bakerville. They raised their family and farmed first in the Heathville area, northwest of Chili, and later in the town of York until retiring.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, The Altar Society and St. Cecelia's Circle in Neillsville, Wis.

Mary enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed fishing, gambling, traveling south, mainly the Southwest for the winter for the past 12 years, crocheting and patch quilting and she was an excellent cook.

She is survived by her husband, Norbert of Granton; her children, George "Buddy" (Bonnie) Barten of Wisconsin Rapids, Nancy (Darrell) Buettner of Sun Prairie and Patricia "Pat" (Jerry) Jensen of Chilton; seven grandchildren, Todd Barten, Lynette Schauer, Scott Buettner, Robert Buettner, Michael Buettner, Bethany Jensen and Daniel Jensen; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Louie (Libby) Rosandich of Wisconsin Rapids, Helen Schultz of Granton, Amanda Glinieck of Stratford and Paul "Murph" Rosandich of Lodi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents and siblings, Joe, Mike, John, Steve, Thomas and Nick Rosandich, Rose Bymers and Annie Bartel.
