Gilbert, Nellie Irene (October 5, 1907 - April 23, 2006)

Nellie Irene Gilbert, age 98, former Town of Thorp resident, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Ladysmith Nursing Home. Services were held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plombon funeral Chapel, Stanley, WI. Pastor Linda Dutton officiated. Visitation was held two hours prior to service. Burial followed at the Oakland Cemetery, Stanley, WI. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.

Nellie was born October 5, 1907 in Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Laura (Witt) Thayer. She resided most of her life in the Stanley area and retired from Blue Moon Cheese Factory in Thorp, WI after working there for over 30 years.

Nellie spent her last few years loving her cat Snoball and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to go fishing and spend time at the cabin in Chetek. She also enjoyed playing cards and had plenty of stories to tell to anyone who was willing to listen.

She is survived by ten grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren and her cat Snoball. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons: Lyle and Junior Gilbert and granddaughter Yvonne Gilbert.
