Anderson, August (20 Oct. 1858 - 22 July 1938)

August Anderson, for 32 years a resident of Clark County, passed away at the Neillsville hospital July 22, 1938, at 5 o’clock p.m. after an illness of only five days with heart trouble. Mrs. Anderson preceded him in death in 1923.

Mr. Anderson was born October 20, 1858, at Habo Westergotland, Sweden, and grew to manhood in his native land. In 1882 he was married to Miss Emma Ost, and they came to America in the spring of 1888.

Deceased was resident of the town of Dewhurst and for the past 14 years was caretaker of the J. W. Ferris cottage and grounds at Lake Arbutus, being a faithful employee and an excellent gardener. He passed away only about nine hours after the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Ferris.

Funeral services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, July 25, with Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Interment was made in the Dells Dam cemetery.

He is survived by 10 children, namely: Carl Anderson, Chicago; (Anna) Mrs. Albert Johnson, Plato Center, Ill.; (Ida) Mrs. Ed Clauson, Worthington, Minn.; (Ellen) Mrs. S. H. Raether, Eau Claire; Harry Anderson, Dells Dam; John Anderson, Worthington, Minn.; (Esther) Mrs. Esther Green, Neillsville; (Ethel) Mrs. Edo Johnson, De Kalb, Ill.; Robert Anderson, Worthington, Minn.; (Mildred) Mrs. John Ness, Elva. There are also 45 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. All of the children and many of the grandchildren were here for the rites.
