Vollenweider, Hedwig (Marriage - 6 Aug. 1938)
Miss Hedwig Vollenweider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Vollenweider, New Glarus, was united in marriage with Francis Cassiman, Neillsville, in a candlelight service, performed by Rev. Ben Stucki at the Swiss Evangelical and Reformed Church at New Glarus Saturday morning, August 6th.
The bride wore a fitted gown of heavy white satin, Juliet cap of lace, and a wreath of orange blossoms held in place by the tulle veil. She also wore a short face veil and carried white roses and babies breath. White pumps completed the ensemble.
Her attendants were Miss Betty Schneider, New Glarus, and Mae Hahlen of Monroe. Miss Schneider was attired in peach chiffon. She wore white sandals, gloves and turban and carried orchid sweet peas and talisman roses. Miss Hahlen wore blue organdy over heavy silk, white sandals and gloves and carried white sweet peas and roses. The bride’s mother wore a blue crepe dress with blue accessories and corsage of white sweet peas.
Miss Alice Freitag played the organ and Miss Margaret Luchsinger and Mrs. Milton Babler sang "Because". Rev. R. Rettig offered a prayer and gave the benediction.
A wedding breakfast for 15 was served at the Eugene Hotel at Monroe after which the couple left on a trip to Chicago. For her traveling gown the bridle selected black crepe with white accessories.
Mrs. Cassiman was graduated from New Glarus high school in 1931 and has since been employed as secretary to Rev. Stucki.
The groom attended Neillsville School, the Mission House College and Curtis-Wright aeronautical school at Glendale, Calif. He will act as advisor and boys’ supervisor at the local Indian school and will also teach manual training. He is a nephew of Henry Cloud, one of the most prominent workers among the Indians in government service.
The couple returned to Neillsville August 11 and will make their home at the school, Mrs. Cassiman continuing her work there.
