Gassen, Catherine Jane (Marriage - 11 Aug. 1938)
Miss Catherine Jane Gassen of Neillsville was united in marriage with Joseph R. Davis of Medford at nine o’clock Thursday morning, August 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Father J. A. Biegler performing the single-ring ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her father, C. S. Gassen. She was attended by her sister, Miss Annabel Gassen, as maid-of-honor, and a friend, Miss Bernice Jepsen, as bridesmaid. Clayton Wright, Granton, and LaVerne McNamee, Medford, attended the groom.
The bride was beautiful in a gown of white chiffon, with lace, Queen Anne collar, fitted at the waistline, long sleeves, puffed at shoulders and tight to a point at the wrists, with a long train. She wore a finger-tip tulle veil, held to the hair with a halo of pleated tulle and white forget-me-nots. She carried a shower bouquet of white swan Sonia, sweet peas and roses and a white pearl rosary.
The maid-on-honor wore pale peach organza and the bridesmaid hyacinth blue organza. Both were designed with full flared skirts, fitted at the waistline, big puffed sleeves, with ruffled square neckline. They wore flower coronet braids, matching the shade of their dresses. Each carried a shower bouquet of blue, pink and yellow sweet peas and bachelor buttons.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Gassen. She was graduated from Neillsville High School in 1937 and has since been employed recently as clerk in the Neillsville Bakery. Her courteous manner and sunny disposition won her many friends.
Mr. Davis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merton Davis of Medford, where he operates a meat market. He was graduated from Granton high school in 1935. He takes a keen interest in baseball and other sports, being a member of the Medford baseball team of the Central Association.
A wedding breakfast was given at the home of the bride’s parents, where covers were laid for 25 guests. The color scheme was pink and white. A pink and white wedding cake graced the center of the table, and mixed sweet peas served as the table bouquets.
Out-of-town guests were the groom’s parents of Medford and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Delabanty of Detroit, Mich.
A wedding dance was given at the Granton armory that night.
The couple will be at home in Medford after August 20.
