Sackett, Charles Lafayett (May 3, 1917 - August 6, 2006)
Charles Sackett, age 93, of Fairchild died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville, Wis.
Charles Lafayett Sackett was born May 3, 1917, in the Town of Seif, Clark County, the son of George and Jessie (Hartson) Sackett. He attended school in the Town of Seif and was united in marriage to Ann Pozega, May 15, 1937.
Charlie worked as a cheesemaker and also worked in the Conservation Corps Camps during the war, making roads, building and cutting trees. He also worked construction. In 1950, they moved to Fairchild, where he farmed and worked in the woods. They sold most of their farm in 1976, and then Charlie began his hobby shop, where he did welding and fabrication for many in and out of the area. He worked in his hobby shop until he was 90 years old.
During his quiet times, Charlie loved fishing and he enjoyed steam engines and older tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters, Carol (Lloyd) Wilkenson of Salem and Evelyn (Michael) Chandler of Alma Center; four grandchildren, Jane, Connie, Debra and Barbra; and seven great-grandchildren, Janine, Janelle, Jessica, Ryan, Robert, Rachel and Nathan. He is also survived by three sisters, Ruth Ida of Blair, Nora Spencer of Minnesota and Ethel (Ed) Pelzek of Fairchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Sandra; brothers, Lloyd, Frank and Harold; and sisters, Eva, Pearl and an infant sister, Mary Jane.
Funeral services for Charles will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Pastor Douglas Bjerke will officiate. Music will be provided by Ronald Resong, organist. Interment will be in the Fairchild Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis.
Casket Bearers are Louie Sackett, Jerry Pelzek, Rod Pelzek, Mike Spencer, Jeff Cowell and Can Bakken.
The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Charles’ family with Funeral arrangements.
