King, Gordon (29 JAN 1930 - 31 OCT 1931)
While his mother had gone to the store of B. Morley, Saturday morning for the purchase of groceries, Gordon King, Jr., the twenty-two month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon King, died as the result of burns received when he played with fire during his mother’s absence.
The little child had been left along in the home while Mrs. King ran a block to the grocery store, being away only a few minutes, and during her absence the child it is thought took paper from the floor, and pushed it into the draft of the range in the kitchen, igniting his clothing. On her return home she found the child sitting under a table crying with his severe pain, his clothing all burn from him with the exception of his little shoes. His body was badly burned as well as his face. Mrs. King wrapped the child in a blanket and ran to the home of Mrs. Hull where all was done that was possible to save its little life, but the burns were so severe that he passed away about two hours later.
Funeral service were conducted Monday afternoon from the Congregational Church, Rev. W.P. Powell officiating, and burial took place in Riverside Cemetery. The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their only child.
