Marksteiner, Anthony "Tony" J. (August 21, 1936 - August 31, 2006)

Anthony J. Marksteiner, age 70, of Neillsville, died August 31, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville, Wis.

Tony Marksteiner was born August 21, 1936 in Chicago, the son of Anthony J. and Ruth (Keller) Marksteiner. He received his education at Chicago schools. After high school he entered the U. S. Navy, serving during the Korean War on the U. S. Craig, Destroyer and the U. S. Tingey. After the war he attended DePaul University in Chicago for two years, and then was employed at Finkel & Son in Chicago as an accountant. He married Betty Repp in 1959 in Chicago.

They moved to Neillsville in 1975. Tony founded Country Gas in 1985 and retired in 2000. After retirement he drove taxicab. He enjoyed swimming and woodworking. He was very active in Chicago in Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Neillsville American Legion, the National Guard and the Neillsville Lions.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Neillsville; three sons, Dennis (Jane) Marksteiner, of Neillsville; David (Marjorie), of Marshfield; and Donald, of Dallas, TX; one daughter, Doreen (Greg) Zickert, of Neillsville; four grandchildren, Chris, Kyle, Mandy, and Malory; three step grandchildren, Ron, Dave and April; five step great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill (Shirley), of DeMotte, IN; Frank (Sue) of Richton Park, IL;; and Mike (Vicky), of Stevens Point.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 3, at Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, with Rev. Woodrow Pace officiating. Pallbearers were; Bill, Frank, Mike, Chris, and Kyle Marksteiner. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Richmond-Haugen Post 73 of the American Legion.
