Anding, George H. (February 5, 1918 - May 4, 2005)

George H. Anding was born February 5, 1918 in Superior along with twin brother Frank J. Anding. Just prior to their fifth birthdays Mary Defoe, their mother, died of complications from TB. Shortly after, they were sent to live in an Indian orphanage in Odanah, WI until age 15. At that point their father, Frank, moved them back to the Lynn area, where they helped family and neighbors with farm chores and other laboring positions.

In summer 1942, George joined the U. S. Army and encouraged his brother Frank to enlist as well. George served state side as a cook due to visual impairments, while his brother Frank served in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea. George served five years in the military before being honorably discharged in 1947. During this time, he married Annabelle Garbusch while stationed in Fort McCoy on November 22, 1942.

After his military service, George was employed at the Neillsville Milk Products for over 20 years, until its ultimate closing. He then worked on freeway construction near Eau Claire for five years. During this time, the nearly 30-year marriage to Annabelle ceased. He then married Donna Loiselle in Chippewa Falls in November, 1972. George retired in 1988 at the age of 70 after working at two more manufacturing jobs in Chippewa Falls. A couple years after retirement, he moved to Hudson for about seven years and has lived in Turtle Lake for the last three years.

Following several strokes, beginning in 1991, George died on May 4, 2005 at the Golden Age Manor Nursing Home in Amery.

Survivors include his twin brother Frank Anding, Burnsville, MN; half sister, Margaret Dufault, Carlton, MN; wife Donna Anding, Turtle Lake; and former spouse Annabelle Anding, Neillsville, Wis.
