Austad, Kay J. (August 17, 1960 - September 30, 2006)
Kay J. Austad, age 46, of rural Humbird, died on Saturday September 30, 2006, at her home in Mentor Township under the care of the Black River Hospice.
Kay was born on August 17, 1960, in Black River Falls, to parents Charles and Gloria (Larson) Rupnow. She graduated from high school in Alma Center in 1978. On June 21, 1986, she married Larry Austad in Merrillan.
She was employed at Leeson Electric in Black River Falls for 12 years and most recently at the Majestic Pines Casino since December of 2005. She was a member of the Merrillan United Methodist Church.
Kay greatly enjoyed spending time doing craft work and flower gardening. She also enjoyed going on motorcycle road trips and taking care of her dog. She will be remembered for her great compassion and concern for the welfare of others.
Kay is survived by her husband, Larry; her sister, Cynthia (Bruce) Walter, of Humbird; nieces and nephews April Walikonis, Casey Austad, Derek Ulness, Alyssa Braun, Kaylin Braun, Jessica and Travis Austad; besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles, on May 29, 2005, and by her mother, Gloria, on December 4, 2005.
Funeral services for Kay J. Austad will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2006, at the United Methodist Church, Merrillan, with Reverend Meg Erickson officiating. Burial will take place in Mentor Cemetery. Friends may call at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, on Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.
