Doern, Caroline Etta (1873 - 1906)

The sad news was received in the city early Saturday morning of the death of Caroline Etta Doern at Knowlton hospital, Milwaukee, after weeks of patient suffering.

Miss Doern’s illness was of long duration, but her never failing courage and cheerfulness kept her about her active duties up to last spring when she was forced to give up.

Her condition had been practically the same for several days before her death and physicians had given it as their last opinion that there would be little or no change for a week or ten days. Acting upon this Mrs. Ida Sexton of this city who had been a constant watcher at her sister’s bedside, for weeks had returned for a short stay with her children but had not been home twenty-four hours when she received the news of Miss Doern’s death.

Caroline Etta Doern was the daughter of C. H. Doern, formerly a proprieter of the Park hotel, now of Albany, Indiana, and was born in Calumnet county in 1873.

The family moved to Unity afterwards to Marshfield where Miss Doern graduated from the high school and taught for two years in the county before going to the Milwaukee Normal School from which she graduated in 1897.
