Cwikla, Walter (January 8, 1913 - February 25, 2005)

Walter Cwikla, age 92, of Lublin, died on Friday, February 25, 2005 at his daughter’s residence in Lublin.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday February 28, 2005 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Father John Long officiated and burial followed in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter’s grandchildren: Jeffrey Wilczek, Jennifer Steinhorst, Shelli Wilczek, Scott Wilczek, Jesse Campbell and Ian Campbell. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Sunday, February 27, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 7:30 prayer service.

Walter Cwikla was born January 8, 1913, in Lublin, WI, the son of Paul and Frances (Swiatowska) Cwikla. He was raised on the family farm and educated in the Lublin area. Walter was united in marriage to Harriet Sebunia on September 8, 1942 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, in Lublin. They bought his family’s farm, which they farmed until their retirement in 1977. Walter also worked for a few years at a furniture factory in Dorchester, Wis. After retiring, Walter stayed busy with gardening, woodworking, fishing, hunting, tinkering and helping his children. His wife, Harriet, died on April 18, 2000. Walter was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and loved spending time with his family, bowling when he was younger, and playing cards.

He is survived by two children: Christine (Frank) Wilczek of Lublin and Leonard (Christine) Cwikla of Lublin; six grand-children: Jeffrey Wilczek, Jennifer Steinhorst, Shelli Wilczek, Scott Wilczek, Jesse Campbell and Ian Campbell and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Harriet; one son, Le Roy; one sister, Eleanor Kroll; and four brothers: Stanley, Chester, Leo and Joe.
