Marie Christine Vanderwyst was born on October 21, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa to Henry and Catherine (Freres) Vanderwyst. Her family then moved to the Unity area, where she was raised and received her education. Marie was united in marriage to Harvey A. Kademan on April 14, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. They farmed near Marsh-field, for a short time, before moving to the Abbotsford area and finally settling in Dorchester, Wis. After 12 years of farming in the Dorchester area, they moved to Curtiss and farmed until their retirement. In July of 1979, Marie went to work at the Clark County Health Care Center, as a nursing assistant, and remained there until she retired in 1985. They moved to Thorp in 1987. Her husband, Harvey, died on December 3, 1998. Marie remained living in Thorp until the time of her death.
She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, and enjoyed needlework, crocheting, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Marie will be sadly missed by four sons: Donald (Marilyn) of Chippewa Falls; Darrell of Eau Claire; Dale of Durango, COP; Wayne (Sharon) of Durango, CO; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey; and three brothers: Morris, Laverne and James Vanderwyst.
