Rowe, Dora S. (30 June 1863 - 6 July 1939)
Dora S. Rowe was born June 30, 1863, at Alto, Fond du Lac County, Wis., a daughter of William and Arvilla Smithers. She passed away July 6, 1939, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Burrows, at Fresno, Calif., with heart trouble and complications.
When a young woman, she came to Clark County and was married to Edward Rowe, December 12, 1888. She lived at York Center and Granton until 1894 when the Rowe family moved to Neillsville and lived here until the fall of 1918. Mr. Rowe working at the carpenter trade. They moved to Chicago that year and two years later went to Fresno, Calif., to reside.
Mrs. Rowe had been a member of the Methodist church most of her life. She was an active and faithful worker in that organization in Neillsville, Wis. She was a member of the Women’s Aid and Barton Bible Class of the First Methodist Church of Fresno. Mr. Rowe passed away March 1, 1936.
Two years ago, Mrs. Rowe made a visit back to the old home and visited relatives and friends in this community and at that time a large group of friends gave her a reception and dinner at the Methodist Church. Mrs. Rowe was the type of woman who kept herself young by taking a deep interest in the activities of her children and their friends. She was as one of them. One felt at ease in her home and in her presence. She was a kind neighbor and a true and sympatric friend.
