Pastor Mike Gray and his family are new members of the Loyal Community. Pastor Gray was assigned to the Free Methodist Church in early August.

“We are getting to enjoy it,” said Pastor Gray of his assignment to Loyal He continued, “We both (his wife Leila and he) lived in small towns. We’re getting adjusted.” Gray says everyone he has met seem friendly.

Before coming to Loayl, Pastor Gray lived in Michigan for three years. He also served as a pastor for four years in St. Charles, Illinois. Gray did his undergraduate work at Greenfield College in Greenville, Illinois. He received his Master’s Degree in Christian Education at Wheaton University.

After he had received his Master’s Degree, Pastor Gray joined his brother in Gaylord, Michigan to form a non-denominational church.

He explained that his brother was a pastor of a Nazarene Church at the time. The couple wanted to apply the Biblical definitions of a church to the new non-denominational group. The church started out with about four or five families which met at a Community Center, and later at the home of the families. Since the inception of the church, it has grown to include 50 to 60 families.

Gray feels that the main principles of a church are to meet the needs of a community. If a church has no need it has no purpose, according to Pastor Gray.

He says hopefully the Free Methodist church will be able to reach out to the community in areas where other groups don’t reach out. He also wants to touch people who do not have a church in their lives. Because Gray believes that a church should help people of the community and serve them he says he will be examining the community’s needs. “One thing I have to do is discern the needs,” he said.

Pastor Gray and his wife have two children, Matthew 7, and Michelle 4.

The Free Methodist Church includes approximately 25 families.

A meeting of the newly formed group of the Central Wisconsin Association of National Bank Women was held at the Florina Supper Club, Medford, on Monday, September 17, 1979.

Named as secretary was Virginia Mondloch, assistant cashier of Citizens State Bank of Loyal.

The main speaker for the evening was Bernice Johnson. Her topic was N.A.B.W.’s role in promoting women in banking. The next meeting will be held November 13, 1979 and will be hosted by the State Bank of Gilman.

Bonnie Krultz, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Selvian Krultz, Route 3, Greenwood has won a $400 college scholarship for her entry in the 1979 Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association essay contest.

The David Rodli Memorial Scholarship is the reward for the winning composition entered in the contest, which is held each year in conjunction with the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Congress at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Miss Krultz’s participation in the program was sponsored by Clark Electric Cooperative.

A senior at Greenwood High School, Miss Krultz is a member of the Future Homemakers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, basketball and track teams, Pep Club, G-Club, High Quiz Bowl, Wisconsin Math League and is class and National Honor Society president. She is also active in the Braun 4-H Club and on the school newspaper.

All enjoyed a beautiful day of visiting and playing cards.

At a 1 p.m. ceremony, Saturday, September 15, 1979, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, Miss Lorena Kurz, Marshfield, became the bride of Gary Fait, 106 Kobs Street, Spencer. The Rev. Andrew Bofenkamp officiated at the ceremony and Deni Lexon played the guitar and sang.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kurz, Route 2, Spencer, and the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Fait, 106 Kobs Street, Spencer.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was seen in an organza over taffeta and lace chapel entrained gown and wore a headpiece with a fingertip veil. She carried a bouquet of peach roses, white carnations and lily of the valley with streamers of rosebuds.

Miss Betsy Sillampa, Owen, served as maid of honor. Miss Cindy Nelson, Marshfield, was the bridesmaid. They wore multi-tiered floral print gowns and carried long stemmed peach roses.

Performing the duties of best man was Tom Shafto, Jr., Loyal, and the groomsman was Kerry Kaiser, Marshfield. Mitch Fait and Cory Kurz were ushers.

A supper was served at Christ the King Hall, Spencer, and a reception and dance were held at the Spencer Village Hall.

Miss Kurz graduated from Loyal High School and from Mid-State Tech, Marshfield. She is a nursing assistant at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

The groom is a graduate of Spencer High School and Mid-State Tech, Marshfield. He is employed at Clover Cream Dairy, Marshfield.

The couple is residing in Marshfield.

Miss Charlotte Ann Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nelson of Spencer, and Gregory Lewis Frane, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Frane of Colby, were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Colby on September 15, 1979.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents during the ceremony for which the organist was Mrs. Alois Gabriel of Colby, guitarist Mr. Dick Harriman, Spencer, and soloists were Miss Debra Nelson and Miss Bonnie Nelson, respectively.

The bridal gown was of white Chantilly lace with empire waist and Queen Anne styling complemented with a fingertip veil. A bouquet of yellow roses, baby’s breath and greens were carried by the bride.

Peach gowns with sheer capes were worn by the attendants, with baby’s breath worn in their hair. Miss Sandra Nelson, Spencer, was the maid of honor, along with Miss Marie Frane of Manitowoc, Miss Bonnie Nelson and Miss Debra Nelson of Spencer. They carried bouquets of yellow roses, baby’s breath and greens.

Bridal attendants were escorted by Joe Miller of Spencer, best man, and Dan Aunor, Wausau, Joe Fieten and Darwin Schmitt of Colby. Larry Frane and Leslie Donner were ushers.

A reception, dinner and dance were held at the Sword in Colby.

Both are 1978 graduates of Colby and Spencer, respectively. She is employed at Gibert Paper Company of Menasha and he is attending Fox Valley Tech in Appleton.

They are living at 68 ½ Racine Street, Menasha, Wisconsin.
