Sandel, Wanda Theresa (November 15, 1924 - January 11, 2005)
Wanda T. Sandel, age 80, of Colby (formerly of Thorp) passed away Tuesday January 11, 2005, at Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp with The Very Rev. Woodrow Pace officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Lublin. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary service.
Wanda Theresa Pawlicki was born on November 15, 1924 in rural Thorp, WI to Anton and Mary (Gronski) Pawlicki and was educated at area schools. She was united in marriage to Leon Sandel on October 23, 1943 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Over the years, Wanda held various jobs in Thorp with Wolf Drugs, Peoples Exchange Bank, and with Leon in his painting and wallpapering business, in addition to her everyday homemaking duties. After Leon’s death in 1997, Wanda lived with her daughter, Charlene, and son Jim, until entering the Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby in 2000.
Wanda was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and its Parish Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by her three children: David (Helen) Sandel of Jacksonville, FL; James (Lee) Sandel of Birmingham, AL; and Charlene (Patrick) Bushek of Madison, WI; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one sister: Clara Gunia of Spencer, WI; one brother: Joe (Sophie) Pawlicki of Thorp, WI; and one sister-in-law: Claire Sandel also of Thorp, WI; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leon, two sisters: Julia Pawlicki and Lottie Losiewicz; and three brothers: Edward, Al, and Clemence Pawlicki.
Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
