Bracken, Marie Margaret (Marriage - 25 Nov. 1939)

Miss Marie Margaret Bracken of Wisconsin Rapids, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Bracken of Neillsville, and Clifford Shirley Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Elliott of Chippewa Falls, were united in marriage at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 25, in a single-ring ceremony, performing at the Methodist Church by the Rev. Obed Asp.

Miss Joyce Kleckner played the prelude: "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life," followed by a vocal solo, "I Love You Truly," by Miss Jean Kleckner, with Miss Joyce at the piano.

The bridal party marched to the altar to the strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march, where the bride was given away by her father. She was attended by Mrs. E. V. Laube of Brodhead, a friend, as matron of honor, and Miss Frances Bracken, her sister, as bridesmaid. Robert Unger was best man, James Unger and Ted Bracken acted as ushers.

The bride wore a white satin gown, with full-length veil, and carried an arm bouquet of white chrysanthemums. Mrs. Laube was dressed in old rose satin, and Miss Bracken wore Alice blue satin, both carrying bouquets of small yellow chrysanthemums. Mrs. Bracken, mother of the bride, wore fuchsia colored crepe, and the groom’s mother, Mrs. Elliott, was dressed in black.

After the ceremony Miss Kleckner played Mendelssohn’s wedding march, and 46 guests went to the Bracken home for a reception and lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott left on a brief wedding trip to Madison and Green County, after which they will be at home at 540 Wisconsin Street, Wisconsin Rapids. For her going-away outfit the bride chose a wine-colored jersey dress, with hat to match.

Mr. and Mrs. Elliott are graduates of Neillsville high school, the bride also completing the teachers’ training course in Neillsville, Wis. She worked for one year in the pension department of the relief office here, and for the past two years she has been employed in the unemployment compensation office at Wisconsin Rapids.

The groom attended Stevens Point State Teachers college for one year and studied for two years at the University of Wisconsin. He has a position with the Northern States Power Company, with headquarters at Eau Claire, where the couple will later make their home.

Out of town guests in attendance at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Laube of Brodhead; Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Elliott and daughter, Florence, of Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Burt Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. George Stanton, Helen Mae and Marjorie Bouton, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Elliott and sons, Robert and Norman, Mrs. Donald Elliott and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Rich, all of Eau Claire; Mrs. M. E. Pillar, Miss Gertrude Slattery, Miss Marie Justeson and Mrs. Helen Neises of Wisconsin Rapids.
