Crowley, John (25 JUL 1897 - 31 OCT 1935)
John Crowley of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), a brother of Pat and Fred Crowley of this city, met death in an auto collision a mile east of Thorp last Thursday evening. His companion, Sidney Alger, suffered cuts and bruises about the head.
According to Traffic Office Haire, who investigate the wreck, Crowley and Alger were driving east on Highway 29 and turned into the driveway of a tavern situated along the highway, crossing the path of an Armour truck driven by L.J. Herrick of Thorp, which was coming from the opposite direction.
Mr. Crowley was born in Thorp on July 25, 1897. He received his education in the parochial and public schools of Thorp. When the World War broke out Mr. Crowley enlisted and served 18 months overseas. For the past several years he has been employed as a car and insurance salesman.
Surviving include his mother, Mrs. James B. Crowley, Thorp; and the following sisters: Mrs. J.F. Murray and Mrs. E.S. Jacobson, Thorp; Miss Margaret Crowley, Milwaukee; Mrs. J.E. Knott, Minneapolis, and Mrs. E.J. Berendson, Antigo.
Deceased was a member of the Thorp American Legion Post.
