Thiel, Florian (4 May 1850 – 17 Jan. 1940)

Funeral services for Florian Thiel were held at St. Mary’s Church Wednesday, January 17, at 9 a.m., Father J. A. Biegler officiating. Burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery here.

Pallbearers were John Hauser, Frank Reinhard, Joseph and John Reinhart, Paul Skroch and Joseph Zilk.

Mr. Thiel was born in Germany May 4, 1850, and was therefore nearly ninety years of age. Coming to the United States, he settled at Lincoln, Nebraska, later removing to the town of Washburn, Clark County, Wisconsin, where he purchased a tract of land. He left Clark County for about eight years, while he homesteaded in Canada, and then returned to develop his land here.

Mrs. Thiel preceded him in death. The following children survive: Frank, whose whereabouts is unknown; John, Minneapolis, Mrs. Victoria Purcell, Aleck, William Florian, Charles and Katie, Pray; Mrs. Julia Rice, Howell, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Valkoski, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Hattie Funphia, whose residence is not certain.
