Carter, Henry John (7 April 1859 - 1940)
Funeral services for Henry John Carter were conducted at his home at Crandon at 8 a.m. Wednesday and at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge church here, Rev. Lyly Stevenson, Crandon, and Rev. Milton Seldt of Seymour (formerly of Crandon) officiating. Pallbearers were members of the Neillsville Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Carter was born at Milton, England, April 7, 1859. He attended school and college there, coming to the United States at the age of 21. March 30, 1887, he was married to Miss Etta Ann Vine of the town of Grant by Rev. W. T. Hendren of the Presbyterian Church here. They lived on a farm in that township until 1917, when the family moved to Crandon where Mr. Carter built a garage, he and his sons carrying on the business since that time.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Lyle, Lester and Walter, all of Crandon and one daughter, (Marie) Mrs. Ervin Poppy, Racine. A son, Harold, died at the age of seventeen.
Mrs. Cater and her children and their families accompanied the remains to Neillsville, Wis. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Huckstead during their brief stay. Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Huckstead being sisters.
