Humbird

A pre-nuptial shower was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Dignin for their daughter, Miss Gloria, Wednesday.

Mrs. Blanche Grush of Oshkosh is here to look after her property. Mrs. Grush will be a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Simons for a few weeks.

Mrs. Albert Hahn is substituting for Miss Ellen Olson, third and fourth grade teacher, who is ill with the flu.

Mrs. Albert Hahn and Mrs. LeCaptain were Black River Falls callers last Saturday.

Mrs. Merrill Darling is sick at her home. Mrs. Robert Osborne is assisting with her care.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Stuve and Miss Daisy Stevens were Eau Claire callers Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Minnie Escher will entertain the sewing club at her home Tuesday.

Mrs. Tom McCready was hostess to her 500 card club last Thursday. Miss Ann Theis had high score.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hart spent the weekend with the former’s mother in Neillsville, Wis.

Miss Genevieve Waters is expected home from Madison to spent two weeks recuperating from scarlet fever.

Little Gordon Hahn was taken to the Krohn Hospital, Black River Falls, last Thursday. He will undergo an appendectomy when he is stronger, as he is just recovering from the flue.

E. Tryor, who has been ill for some time, was taken to the hospital, at Black River Falls for medical care.

Misses Lois Bemis, Laurel Hart; Violet Mattie and Lorraine Pierce were supper and overnight guests of their teacher, Miss Mable Anderson, during the absence of Miss Ellen Olson, third and fourth grade teacher, who is Miss Anderson’s roommate.

Mrs. Charles Wincher and Frank Zimmerman entertained a number of relatives and friends at the Gottlieb Wincher home in honor of their birthdays. The evening was spent in playing cards. Mrs. Wincher served a nice lunch later in the evening.

District Elder Robert Olson of Milwaukee held services at the Methodist church Sunday.

Mrs. Ed Johnson entertained the ‘galloping ladies" at her home Saturday afternoon.

William Eibergen was called to Two Rivers last Monday, where he will work in the Hamilton factory.

Miss Dorothy Nibbe and Alfred Nibbe went to Red Wing, Minn., last Monday to seek employment.

Mrs. Rose Russell and daughter, Marjorie, are spending the week with relatives in Eau Claire.

The home of Ernest Reider was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Nina Stuve will be hostess to the 500 card club Tuesday afternoon.

The sewing club net Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Ben Hart.

Mrs. Anna Brandsteder spent a few days last week with her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Fristad, in Eau Claire.

The Methodist Ladies’ aid will meet today with Mrs. Edmund Noyes.

Lorraine Riplinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvis Riplinger, was badly burned Sunday afternoon, when she tried to put some paper in the stove, the flames igniting her clothing. The little one was taken to the Krohn hospital at Black River Falls.
