Brooks, Eva (7 DEC 1854 - 9 MAR 1943)

Word was received here Tuesday by Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Hartson informing them of the death of Mr. Hartson’s only sister, Mrs. George R. Brooks, 88, who died Tuesday morning, March 9, 1943, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frances Hodge, at Rapid City, S.D.

Eva Hartson, daughter of E.G. and Marion Hartson, was born at Elkhorn, Wis., Dec. 7, 1854, and came in 1872 to Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), where she taught school for 15 years prior to her marriage Dec. 18, 1894, to George R. Brooks of Neillsville, Wis. Mr. Brooks, who was Clark County Sheriff in 1903-04, died eight years ago.

The Brooks made their home on a farm in Neillsville for many years before going to Morristown, S.D.

Mrs. Brooks is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frances Hodge, Rapid City, S.D.; one son, Earl Brooks, Idaho; a brother, H.H. Hartson, Greenwood; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Johnson of Morristown, S.D.

Seven years ago Mrs. Brooks spent the summer with relatives and friends in Neillsville, Wis. Funeral services will be held in Rapid City.
