Carlsen, Anna (13 Feb. 1873 - 24 March 1940)
Mrs. L. O. Carlsen, 67, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles C. Hansen, of Neillsville Easter Sunday morning, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Carlsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on February 13, 1873, to Nels and Bodil Neilsen. She came to American with her parents at the age of 10, the family settling at Northwood, Ia., where she grew to womanhood. On February 30, 1893, she was married to Julius Carlsen of Camp Douglas.
To this union were born five children: Nels Carlsen, World War veteran; and Walter Carlsen, both of whom have passed away; Ella, Mrs. Charles Hansen, of Neillsville; Richard Carlsen of Camp Douglas; and Lawrence Carlsen of Martinsdale, Mont. There are eight living grandchildren.
For 46 years Mrs. Carlsen lived in and around Camp Douglas and then came to Neillsville to make her home with her daughter and family.
Short services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, followed by an early afternoon service at St. Stephen’s Danish Lutheran Church, near Camp Douglas, Rev. Viggo Petersen officiating. Burial was made in the church yard.
