Wiernasz, Andrew (19 Sept. 1884 - 22 March 1940)
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Thomas Adamiak at St. Hedwig’s Church at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning for Andrew Wiernasz, local stock buyer and owner of the Thorp meat market, who passed away at his home here Friday evening, March 22.
His death was caused by cancer of the stomach, and he had been ill for about a mouth when the ailment was discovered. A short service was performed by members of the Polis National Alliance, group No. 646, of which he was a member, at the Bogumill funeral home, where the body lay in state beside his friend, Anton Malinowski, who passed away Saturday evening.
Andrew Wiernasz was born in Poland on September 19, 1884, and he reached the age of 55 years, six months and 13 days. He came to America in 1902 and located in Racine, where he was united in marriage to Angeline Somborski on February 8, 1915. He came to Thorp in 1918 and became engaged in buying and shipping livestock, and when his family joined him here in 1931, he started in retail meat business on West Main Street, purchasing the Boehm market several months ago. He also continued in the shipping of stock with the assistance of his sons.
The circle of the deceased acquaintances was large, as his business called him into the farming community for miles around Thorp. His many friends deeply mourn with the bereaved widow and family, his untimely demise.
Besides his wife, Angeline, he leaves two daughters, Florence and Helen; four sons, Edward, Bennie, John and Frank, all at home; three brothers, Albert and Walter of Racine and Joseph in Poland, and one sister, Olympia Wiernasz, in Poland.
The body was laid to rest in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, the following acting as pallbearers: John S. Bogumill, Joseph Tobola, Joseph Pabich, Frank Kalaczkowski, Thomas Szatalowicz and Frank Anyzewski.
Out of town friends attending the funeral were: Albert and Walter Wiernasz, Mike Niemie, Stanley Baron and Robert Stepski, all of Racine.
