Christie, Eva Sophia (February 17, 1916 - November 17, 2005)
Eva Christie, age 89, of Neillsville, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville, Wis.
Eva Sophia Christie was born February 17, 1916 in Greenwood, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Switzer) Kalkofen. She graduated from the University at Eau Claire with her undergraduate degree and then returned to the University at nights and weekends to obtain her Master’s Degree in Math. Eva then worked for the Farmer’s Store in Neillsville for a short time. She was united in marriage to Eugene Christie on November 20, 1939 in Greenwood. Eva then began teaching at the Happy Hollow Grade School north of Neillsville, Wis. Eva taught there for many years, and during her tenure taught all the grades in the school. She next taught at the Greenwood Public School, retiring in 1978. Eugene died on the first day of deer hunting, November 22, 1980. Even in retirement Eva continued teaching, this time as a tutor at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School in Neillsville, Wis. She did this uyntil 2002. Eva was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, Wis. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.
She is survived by three sons, Richard (Norma Kay) Christie, of Neillsville; Kenneth (Patricia) Christie, of La Crosse; and Larry (Sally) Christie, of Madison; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Eva is also survived by one sister, Lila Thoma, of Wisconsin Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her parents; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services for Eva will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, Wis. Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood. Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at the Church.
Casket Bearers are: Anna Christie, David Christie, Jill Christie, Mark Christie, Richard Christie Jr., and Sam Christie.
The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Eva’s family with funeral arrangements.
