Strangfeld, Elizabeth "Libby" (July 16, 1906 - January 24, 2005)

Elizabeth "Libby" Strangfeld, age 98, of Neillsville, died Monday, January 24, 2005 at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville, Wis.

Elizabeth Amelia Augusta Glasow was born on July 16, 1906 in the Town of Weston, Clark County. She attended Fairview Grade School and the German School in Globe and then graduated from Neillsville High School in 1924. After graduation she taught at the Blackberry School in Willard for a year and then was united in marriage to John Strangfeld on March 19, 1926 in Neillsville, Wis. After their marriage, Libby raised their family and helped with the farming. They purchased their farm in 1942 and in 1943 they moved onto the farm. Libby would return to teaching first at the Hewettville School and later at the Hillside School. She retired in 1950.

She was a member of the Pine Valley Lutheran Church and was very active in the church serving on the Ladies Aid, as an officer and teaching Sunday School.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Sischo, of Neillsville, and Elaine Quast, of Sparta; one son, Herman (Jackie) Strangfeld, of Neillsville; 10 grandchildren, Terry (Elsie) Sischo, of Neillsville; Dennis (Mary Jo) Sischo, of Neillsville; Vicki (Allen) Steffen of Greenwood; Janis (Chris) Smith, of Greenwood; Judy (Brad) Lindner, of Neillsville; Steve (Dawn) Quast, of Sparta; Larry (Cindy) Strangfeld, of Neillsville; Bruce (Susan) Strangfeld, of Eau Claire; Jeff (Jeannie) Strangfeld of Neillsville; and Leila (Richard) Burgdorf, of Fond du Lac; 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grand-children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; two sons-in-law, Devere Sischo and Robert Quast; two sisters and her parents.

Funeral Services for Libby were held Thursday, January 17, 2005 at the Pine Valley Lutheran Church. Pastor Keith Lueneburg officiated. Music was provided by Virginia Karnitz, organist. Interment was in the North Pine Valley Cemetery.

Casket Bearers were her grandsons, Terry and Dennis Sischo, Larry, Bruce and Jeff Strangfeld and Steve Quast.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Libby’s family with funeral arrangements.
