Eden, Eunice (3 April 1890 - 8 April 1940)
Mrs. Herman Eden, nee Eunice Smith, passed away at her home in Conconnully, Wash., the eighth day of April, 1940, according to word which recently came to Neillsville friends. She was born April 3, 1890, in Anisby, Nebraska, to Dr. and Mrs. B. E. Smith, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Eden spent her youth and high school days in Neillsville, later going to Ashland, Oregon, her parents having preceded her to that city. She was graduated from the normal school in McMinnville and took post-graduate work in the Bellingham and Pacific Grove normals.
She taught school in Helix, Oregon, and in Lakeview, where she promoted the building of the Union high school. She also was instrumental in promoting higher education for many people in Oregon College.
She was married to Herman Eden at Spokane, Wash., but had spent most of her married life at Conconnully. Her home was a center of civic, educational and religious affairs.
She had not been in good health although no one in the family was aware of it. At the time of her death she was reading an article entitled "Going Home to Mother," her glasses marking the place in a magazine.
She is survived by her husband; four sisters, and two brothers: Mrs. Adah Spaede, Ashland, Ore., Charles W. Smith, Allegan, Mich., Mrs. Ruby Hayward, Greenville, Mich.; Mrs. Hazel Fisher, Albany, Ore.; Dale T. Smith, Pittsburg, Pa.; and Mrs. Norma Waltermire, Roseburg, Ore.
The Smith family home in Neillsville was located where the Neillsville Milk Products Co-op-erative building now stands.
Funeral services were held April 12, at Conconnully, the Rev. Pearson of the M. E. Church officiating.
