Thomas, Marie Caroline (6 May 1850 - 16 June 1940)
Mrs. Ernest Thomas passed away at the home of her son, Oscar Thomas, in the town of Washburn Sunday afternoon, June 16, at the age of 90.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Germany, May 6, 1850. She was married in her native country in 1871, five of her children being born there. In 1890 the family came to the United States, settling in the state of Indiana. Nine years later they came to the town of Washburn where Mrs. Thomas had been a resident for 41 years. Mr. Thomas passed away July 16, 1933, and from that time on Mrs. Thomas made her home with her son.
She is survived by two daughters, Ida, Mrs. Albert Strey, and Anna, Mrs. Robert Strey; both residing in York Township; two sons, Ben of Hurley and Oscar of Washburn; nineteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Four children preceded the mother in death, namely: Mrs. Fred Hohenstein, Louis, Alma and Caroline.
Funeral services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m., the rites being conducted by the Rev. G. W. Longenecker. Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.
