Woepse, John (1 NOV 1898 - 22 SEP 1947)

Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) - John Woepse, 48, who was injured critically in a car accident Saturday evening (Sep 22, 1947) at 6 o’clock at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

The accident occurred about 2 ¼ miles west of Greenwood in a rain and windstorm, Mr. Woepse losing control of his car when it hit a soft shoulder and landed in a ditch, overturning. He was taken to the Greenwood Clinic by Ed Johnson and son, Howard, and later was brought to St. Joseph’s Hospital by ambulance. He suffered a brain concussion and lacerations of the head and face.

Beginning Friday afternoon the body will lie in state at the Woepse home, where the funeral rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. At 2 o’clock another service will be conducted at West Side Reformed Church by the Rev. J.C. Klingeberger. Interment will take place in the West Side Cemetery.

Mr. Woepse, son of the late Henry and Johanna Woepse was born in the Town of Meeme, Manitowoc Co., Nov. 1, 1898, and was unmarried. On June 16, 1910, he came from the Town of Meeme with his parents to a farm northwest of Greenwood, now the Henry Horn farm. In 1925 he and his parents went to the present Woepse farm in the Town of Longwood, 10 miles northwest of Greenwood.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Gust (Anna) Horn, Town of Warner; Mrs. Henry (Mary) Horn, Town of Longwood; and Mrs. George (Eveline) Kuester, Town of Warner; and a brother, Oscar, Mansquen, N.J.
