Peters, Margaret Francis (January 2, 1935 - December 29, 2006)

Margaret F. Leonard, age 71, of Thorp, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2006 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp with Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial took place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, also in Thorp. Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary service.

Margaret Francis Peters was born on January 2, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI to Albert and Belle (Doro) Peters. She was educated at area schools and graduated from Cudahy High School. She was united in marriage on November 24, 1956 at St. Fredericks Catholic Church in Cudahy, WI to Roy Leonard. They farmed in the Franksville area until 1973 when they moved to Thorp. Roy and Margaret continued to farm in the Thorp area until retiring to their hobby farm in the Town of Reseburg. Roy later passed away on August 10, 2004. Margaret continued to live in the Thorp area until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in 2005.

Margaret had many different interests including: walking, reading mystery novels, ceramics, crocheting, gardening and bowling. She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its PCCW for many years. She also volunteered for NAMI which gave her great joy.

She is survived by her children: Michael (Mary Lee) of Spencer, Gregory (Julie) of Taylor, Joseph of Thorp, Robert of San Francisco, CA, Tim of Stanley, and Laura Leonard of Thorp. She is further survived by 17 grandchildren; one great-grand-child; and one brother, James Peters of Neshkoro, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; one son, Richard Leonard; one daughter-in-law, Kay Leonard; one brother, John Peters and one sister, Patricia Stamas.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
