Kimble, Vernon (1912 - 12 OCT 1936)
Vernon Kimble, grandson of John Kimble of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), took his life with a 38 caliber revolver Monday at Stevens Point, while being taken to police headquarters there to be questioned regarding checks he had used in that city. Before leaving for Stevens Point Kimbel attempted to cash several checks in Owen (Clark Co.) without success.
Police said he had cashed checks for $20 and $25 at stores there on Saturday and Monday, and that he had attempted to cash checks for $40 and $50 at other stores. Two checks were found in his billfold drawn on the Bank of Withee and signed by John Kimbel.
It is reported that after having finished school, he was employed here at Owen for a short time before he left for Fort Snelling, Minn., where he joined the army, remaining with it two years. He had been working on the Pacific Coast and returned home for a short visit before going on to Stevens Point.
Kimbel is survived by his grandfather and two sisters, Vivian and Sorella. His father was killed in the World War.
The body was removed to the Griebenow-Weirich funeral home and services will be held from that place on Friday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Powell will officiate.
