Lange, Peter (9 MAR 1862 - 10 DEC 1936)
Funeral services were held for Peter Land, 75, of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), on Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Danish Lutheran Church. Rev. M. Mikkelsen officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Mr. Lang passed away at his home Thursday morning at nine o’clock as the result of pneumonia.
J. Peter N. Lang was born in Gredsted, Denmark, on March 9, 1862. At the age of 17 he came to America and settled at Danneberg, Neb., where he worked as a farm hand for six months, after which he left for Wyoming, where he secured work with a railroad company. He stayed with them for three years, and then returned to Danneberg, where he assisted his brother, Nels, in the carpenter trade. On April 28, 1886, he was united in marriage to Marie Larson, and together they left in a covered wagon for Bird City, Kan., where they secured a homestead and remained long enough to prove it up. Next they returned to St. Paul., Neb., where Mr. Lang had secured employment with the Chicago Lumber Co. A year and a half later this company opened a branch office at Farwell, Neb., and Mr. Lang was given charge. He remained there for 21 years, after which he resigned and with his family moved to a farm near Withee. A few years ago he retired and moved into Withee, where he has since made his home.
Surviving children are Wilfred Lang, Denver, Colo.; Heber Lang, Racine; Edwin Lang, Withee; Mrs. T.C. (Sarah) Snyder, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Fred (Harriett) Rasmussen, Oshkosh; Mrs. T. (Clara) Ammentorp, Withee; Mrs. Peter (Dagny) Madsen, Owen; and Mrs. Andrew (Hulda) Smith, Withee. Mrs. Lang preceded her husband in death in September 1934.
Forty-two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Lang, Audubon, Iowa; Paul Lang, California; Martin Lange, Lynch, Neb.; and two sisters, Mrs. Karen Bertlesen, Nysted, Neb.; and Mrs. C.T. Christensen, Audubon, Iowa, also survive.
Pallbearers at the funeral were John Stevenson, Chris Mose, Avell Ammentorp, Alfred Frost, Peter Rieber, and M.C. Madsen.
