Graves, A.A. (14 MAY 1857 - 16 DEC 1936)
A. A. Graves, resident of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) since 1866, died at his home Wednesday morning at three o’clock after an illness which became serious several weeks ago.
Born at Wautoma, Wis. on May 14, 1857, Mr. Graves came to Loyal with his parents in 186. In 1876 he entered a partnership with his father in the operation of a sawmill, and when the plant burned 10 days later, he built a mill of his own and continued to operate it for 28 years.
He also owned a store on the site of the present D. W. Colby and Son Store, built a grist mill and operated it for six years, and was president of the Loyal State Bank. During his career he also served as president of the village of Loyal.
Mr. Graves was married to Isabel Hallock on Sept. 18, 1878, and they had two children, Elva, now Mrs. R. M. Jenks, Madison, and Blanche, now Mrs. M. M. McGonigal, Loyal, both of whom survive. Mrs. Graves died in 1882 and in 1886 Mr. Graves was married to Dolly Mulvey, who survives him. There are six grandchildren.
Masonic funeral rites will be conducted at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m., Friday, with the Rev. Fleming assisting in prayer.
