Peck, Aretus A. (19 July 1854 - 26 Oct. 1940)
Aretus A. Peck was born July 19, 1854, in Hopkinton, St. Lawrence County, New York. He passed away at the Neillsville hospital Saturday evening, October 26.
Mr. Peck came to Wisconsin in 1881. He settled in Nasonville, Town of Rock, Wood County, at that time a wilderness. Later he bought forty acres and developed a farm in the town of Lincoln. Here he held the office of school clerk for thirteen years and also served his township in other capacities. He was a carpenter by trade, fishing and hunting being the sports he loved and derived much pleasure from his trips to the woods and streams.
On November 12, 1876, he was married to Abegail Drake. Four daughters were born to this union, namely: Edith, Mrs. Abel Harding, Neillsville; Adelia, who passed away; Gussie, Mrs. Harry Schroeder, Kenosha, and Pearl, Mrs. Fred Colburn, Wabeno. He had fourteen grandchildren, all of whom, except two, are living, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
His wife passed away in 1901. Since that time, Mr. Peck had made his home with Mrs. Harding.
Funeral services were held at the Jaster Funeral Home, Tuesday at two p.m., Rev. O. Asp of M. E. Church officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Nasonville Cemetery.
