Dux, Fred, Sr. (10 April 1860 - 28 Oct. 1940)

Fred Dux, Sr., a pioneer farmer of this community, passed away at the home farm in Pine Valley, October 28, 1940, at the age of eighty, having been in ill health for the past year.

Brief services will be held from the home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31st, and from St. John’s Lutheran Church at 2:00 Rev. William A. Baumann will have charge of the services. Burial will take place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mr. Dux was born in Germany April 10, 1860, and was married there to Miss Wilhelmine Nemitz April 11, 1882, the couple sailing for America five days later, on April 16. Neillsville was their destination and remained their permanent home.

They bought a farm in Pine Valley Township where they shared the joys and sorrows of life together for 57 years. On April 11, 1932, they celebrated the golden anniversary of their marriage. Seven years thereafter the devoted couple was separated, by the death of Mrs. Dux, on April 19, 1939.

When they could no longer do the farm work, they were fortunate in having a son to take over the responsibilities, while they continued to live in the home and surroundings which had become dear to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Dux were the parents of eight children, seven of whom are living, one daughter, Ida, passed away at the age of 19. The surviving children are: Paul, on the home farm; Otto and Fred, Jr., Pine Valley; Anna, Mrs. Otto Zank, Pine Valley; Clara, Mrs. John Miller, Glidden; Margaret, Miss Otto May; and Hulda, Mrs. Albert Wegner, Pine Valley. There are 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and also one sister, Mrs. Bertha McCourt, Oconto Falls.

Six grandsons will act as pallbearers.
