Loy, Jane (8 Aug. 1852 - 5 Nov. 1940)

Mrs. Jane Loy passed away Tuesday night, November 5, 1940, at the home of her son, Harry St. Clair, Neillsville, Wis. It was on the 8th day of the 8th month this year that Mrs. Loy celebrated her 88th birthday anniversary.

Mrs. Loy was born on August 8, 1852, the daughter of Joseph and Clara Bass. When she was about 18 years of age, she was married to Robert St. Clair. They came to Clark County 66 years ago and settled on land east of Neillsville, Wis. They arrived here in February and the following June Mr. St. Clair was killed while hauling hay, leaving his wife with two small children to care for. She proved herself equal to the take, just as she bravely met every emergency and hardship throughout life.

Evelyn years after the death of Mr. St. Clair, she was married to Sylvester Loy, a mason. Two sons, Joseph and Guy, were born to them, the eldest of whom, Joseph, died during early manhood, about 32 years ago. Mr. Loy passed away many years ago.

Since then she had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. St. Clair, except while she worked out, at nursing and such other employment as she found to do. She was noted for her cleanly habits and neatness. Therefore, her services were much in demand. In mannerism she was ladylike and pleasing.

Mrs. Loy is survived by a long line of descendants, reaching into the fifth generation, her closest surviving kin being her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Blau, Neillsville, and two sons, Harry St. Clair, Neillsville, and Guy Loy, Beloit. A sister, Mrs. Sara A. Niles, four years her junior, passed away on the 24th day of last September.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, at the Lowe Funeral home, the body lying in state at the home of the son until that morning. The Rev. G. W. Longenecker will conduct the rites.
