Bartelt, Jennie (25 JAN 1884 - 31 DEC 1943)

Jennie Melius was born on Jan. 25, 1884 in the Town of Scott, Sheboygan County and was married to Wm. Bartelt on Oct. 16, 1902 at Balavia, Sheboygan Co. To this union one son, Rueben, was born.

They lived in Sheboygan County until 1913 when they came to Clark County and settled on a farm west of Greenwood where they resided until the death of their son on June 1, 1940, when Mrs. Bartelt came to this city, with her four grandchildren, Robert, Evelyn, Billy and Douglas, and lived in the home they purchased of Irvin Horn.

Mrs. Bartelt was a member of the Methodist Church and its aid for many years.

She passed away at her home on Dec. 31, 1943 at 8:00 p.m. following an illness of 4 years with asthma and heart trouble, and the last two months she was confined to her bed. She was a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, several weeks in November.

She is survived by her husband, four grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vivian Bartelt of Beloit, 4 brothers, Fred Melius of Adell, Wis.; Wm. And Ed Melius of South Dakota; and Henry Melius of California; 2 sisters, Mrs. Dave Irvine (Erma) and Mrs. Ella Melius, both of Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 1:30 p.m. from the Schiller Funeral Home, and at 2:00 p.m. from the Grace Methodist Church. Rev. A.J. Abbott officiated. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: John Arends, Art Iverson, Albert Dahl, Frank Drake, John Johnson and Don Warner.
