Stanley J. "Stash" Manicke, Jr. of Harland, WI passed away on January 9, 2007 at the age of 90.

Military Funeral Services were held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007, at the Evert-Luko Funeral Home, 170 Warren Avenue, Hartland. Burial services were held in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, Union Grove.

"Stash" was the oldest son of the late, Stanley Manicke, Sr. and Lucy Bogumill Manicke who together had nine children. He was born in Mosinee, WI on July 16, 1916 and at the age of one came to live in Thorp, where he made his home until he graduated from Thorp High School in 1935.

Stash and his relatives made up over 10 percent of the 1935 class. The 44 graduates of the class of 1935 at Thorp High School included valedictorian, Kathryn "Dutie" Bogumill Blozel of Ocala, FL (Stash’s aunt); salutatorian, Margorie Manicke (Stash’s sister); "Booby" Clayborne Bogumill (Stash’s first cousin); "Fats" Walter Y. Tesko (Stash’s cousin); and Lorraine Bogumill-Kucharek (Stash’s cousin) of Nokomis, FL.

He proudly served in the United States Army under General Patton from 1942 until 1945 and participated in the Western Europe Campaign, the Normandy Campaign and the Northern French Campaign. He was the owner and operator of Manicke Blind and Shade Company from 1949 until his retirement in 1974.

Stanley loved playing cards, especially sheepshead, and was an avid fisherman enjoying everything from fly fishing to ice fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie, in 1968; his parents: his sisters: Margorie and Sandra; and his brothers: Paul and Danny.

He is survived by his loving daughter Geri (Jaime) Love of Colgate, WI and his siblings: Lillian Bohrman of Waukesha, WI, Donna Geddes of WI, Beverly Hippert of Hartland, WI and Jack Manicke of IN.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Animal Welfare Society or to the National WWII Memorial.

The Evert-Luko Funeral Home of Hartland assisted the family.
