Laurent, Margaret (1905 - 1941)

Miss Margaret Laurent of Thorp, instructor of the Chippewa Falls Junior High School for several years, was fatally injured in an automobile accident Friday while on her way home from a summer’s trip to the west coast. She was a daughter of Eugene Laurent, a supervising teacher for Clark County.

Mrs. Laurent’s only surviving sister passed away at Thorp last week. An hour after the funeral on Sunday the sisters’ one, Edward, died suddenly and on Monday night Mrs. Laurent received the message announcing the death of her daughter.

Miss Margaret was taken to St. Barnabas hospital at McCook, Neb., directly after the accident, the message to the home folks stating that she had sustained a wrist fracture, with possible chest injuries and that her condition was fair. Monday morning word came that Margaret was not expected to live. Her sister, Eleanore, of Madison took a plane for McCook at once, but e’re she arrived Margaret had passed away.

Miss Laurent was well known in Clark County, having taught in various schools, among them the Eaton Center School.

She is survived by her mother, two sisters and three brothers; Miss Eleanore, Madison; Miss Belle, a student at River Falls State Teachers College; Arthur, of Stanley, Francis, Washington, D. C.; and Eugene, at home. The father died in 1911.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed at the press hour Wednesday, but the services will, no doubt, be held at Thorp today (Thursday) or Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Landry and family will attend the rites, the departed being a cousin of Mr. Landry.

*Buried in the East Thorp Cemetery.
